About the performance
Original title: medtem ko skoraj rečem še ali prilika o vladarju in modrosti
Première: 24 April 2015, Small stage
120 minutes, no interval
In some unspecified past, a king with two ministers is ruling a country. The ministers come from two poles: one evaluates the crisis in the country realistically and has constructive suggestions for solution of the problems, the other helps to create problems that demand ruling with a hard hand and justify different dubious ruling measures. The ruler, obviously, listens to the second minister: as hunger, poverty and discontent spread through the exhausted country, an external enemy needs to
be invented and troops consolidated.
We enter the story through the double optics of the government and the people, a male and a female perspective, the central one, which rules, and the peripheral, which reaps the consequences. Dualism is mercilessly obvious, as is the co-dependency between the poles. Although the central scene is the king’s palace, the government businesses of the mighty sovereign and his two ministers who disregard the hunger and poverty of the people seem like a familiar caricature.
