The day of the nominees
The Day of the Nominees at the Week of Slovenian Drama is a day-long event dedicated to a thorough presentation of the nominees for the Grum Award. The expert jury shortlists five nominees whom we then present to the wider public on the Day of the Nominees, and the winner is announced at the closing ceremony.
For years, the format for meeting the nominated playwrights has consisted of a reading performance of the nominated play and a moderated discussion about it. Reading performances are prepared by promising young directors together with the ensemble of the Prešeren Theatre Kranj, while the discussions are attended by the authors, Grum Award jury members, university teachers and professors, dramaturgs, critics, directors … An important part is audience participation – the audience is invited to
share their visions of the texts with the authors and guests. The concept of a festival day wholly dedicated to the best texts of new Slovenian drama is oriented toward presenting the authors and opening a dialogue that questions the state of original drama in the Slovenian theatre space, its staging, interpretation and development.
Our goal is to make the Day of the Nominees a recognisable platform to aid in spreading awareness about the importance (and relevance) of new drama, as well as in exchanging opinions, because it is through openness and connections that we can enrich each other – and the Slovenian dramatic writing.
